Overview

Trendsi Wallet is a prepaid digital account designed for (small and medium-sized business) SMB users on Trendsi to reduce payment failures, improve trust, and lower transaction costs. It allows users to top up funds in advance, set Auto-Reload and Auto-Apply Credits, and pay directly from their Wallet at checkout.

User Research & Insights

Through interviews with high-volume merchants and analysis of support tickets, we found their biggest pain points were:

(1) SMBs experienced frequent payment failures during live shopping events and campaign peaks due to bank anti-fraud triggers.

(2) Manual solutions (issuing Brex sub-cards, handling offline settlements) were labor-intensive and poor for user experience.

(3) Difficulty tracking multiple small transactions

(4) Lack of confidence in payment reliability. These insights informed our design priorities: upfront education, transparent balances, simple setup, and clear transaction history.

Competitive Context

We analyzed competitor solutions such as Kiwi Drop’s prepaid wallet and Stripe’s pre-auth approach. While these offered partial fixes, they lacked a seamless, self-service experience and transparency for merchants. Trendsi Wallet differentiates by combining reliability, clear balance/transaction visibility, and flexible controls (top-up, auto-reload, credits) in one place.

Solution

After user research and competitive analysis, we identified the need for a scalable, automated, and user-friendly payment solution. The Wallet became the final product direction, allowing SMBs to pre-fund an account and pay seamlessly without interruption.

Working closely with product and engineering, I designed a Wallet experience aligned with Trendsi’s design system. It supports quick top-ups, Auto-Reload, Auto-Apply Credits, and shows balances and histories at a glance. A streamlined flow enables merchants to set up and complete payments in seconds.

Key design considerations included:

  • Wallet Page & Core Features – Designed Wallet screens aligned with the design system, including Add Money, Auto-Reload, Auto-Apply Credits at Checkout, Transaction History, and Balance Overview to fully support users’ payment needs.

  • Payment Flow Integration – Seamlessly embedding Wallet as a priority option at checkout.

  • Simplified Interaction Flow – Streamlined the setup and payment process so users could quickly activate Wallet features and complete transactions with minimal friction.

  • Scalability – Creating a flexible framework for future features like promotional credits and multiple funding methods.

My Role

As the Founding Product Designer, I led the end-to-end design of Trendsi Wallet. I conducted user research, mapped the merchant journey, defined key flows (onboarding, top-up, auto-reload, checkout), created high-fidelity prototypes aligned with the design system, and collaborated closely with product and engineering to balance user needs with technical constraints. I also established success metrics and tracked adoption post-launch to inform future iterations.

Design Overview

This high-fidelity screen illustrates the Trendsi Wallet experience I designed to give SMBs a reliable, self-service way to manage prepaid credits. The page aligns with the platform’s design system and brings together all key wallet functions in one place:

  • Credit Balance & Top-Up: Prominent display of total credits with a single “Add Credit” action.

  • Auto-Reload & Auto-Apply: Simple toggle settings that let users automatically reload funds and apply credits at checkout to reduce friction.

  • Transparent History: A searchable, filterable transaction log showing time, type, remarks, amount, and balance for easy reconciliation and export.

By simplifying the layout and interaction flow, the Wallet allows merchants to quickly fund their accounts, control how credits are applied, and track every transaction—improving payment success rates and user trust while reducing manual support overhead.

Impact & Success Metrics

Within the first six months of launch, success was measured by:

Adoption Rate: Reached 400+ SMB accounts within the first 6 months (35% of high-volume merchants).

Payment Success Rate: Increased from 72% to 96% compared to traditional bank card payments, reducing failed transactions by over 60%.

Revenue Scale: Processed $2.3M+ in preloaded funds within the first quarter after launch, averaging $400 per merchant top-up.

Operational Savings: Reduced manual Brex card support tickets by 75%, saving the team 20+ hours per week and cutting payment commission costs by 15%.

Future Iterations

Planned features include promotional credit incentives for top-ups, support for multiple funding methods (e.g., bank transfers), and deeper reporting dashboards. These will continue to enhance merchant loyalty and operational efficiency.

Key Value

This case study demonstrates my ability to translate urgent business pain points into scalable product experiences, balancing short-term fixes with a long-term UX vision that drives adoption and revenue, while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and using data to validate impact.
